My Review (No Spoilers)

I've been wanting to read this book for awhile because my sister read it and said it was AMAZING, and she is like my twin that was born three years after me and we basically have the same taste in everything. I had also just seen the trailer for the movie version starring Shailene Woodley as Hazel and Ansel Elgort as Augustus (or Gus as I like to think of him). I really recommend watching the trailer because it gives you a base point of what the characters should look like when you're reading the book. Anyways, that had me really excited because I think Shailene Woodley is a really great actress and they had great chemistry in the trailer. So I decided to read the book for those two reasons and boy, am I glad I did.

Let me start with the fact that this book was so good that I read it in one sitting. I just could NOT put it down. I'm warning you now, this book will make you cry...and laugh...and cry. But that's because it's written so well that you feel like you're there with Hazel, experiencing everything with her. A lot of young adult books that are written in the first person perspective fail to realistically portray the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of young adult women. This book is different because the way the author writes from Hazel's perspective makes you almost feel like you have become her.

Every interaction between the characters and every thought that goes through her head is something that every one of us can totally relate to and understand. Sometimes i'll be reading something and all of the sudden i'll be like That is so not what would have happened. I think we've all been there. This book is nothing like that. Even when using phrases like "the ghettoization of scrambled eggs," I still found myself thinking: Why are eggs only thought of as breakfast food? That is a totally realistic conversation to have!

From the very beginning this book had me captivated. It is an extremely easy read. I read it in three hours. And in those three hours, I fell in love with Hazel Grace and Augustus. This book changed my life.
